Glowing Mama – our beautiful and tasty rooibos tea

glowing mama rooibos tea

Rooibos tea is often heralded for it’s health benefits, and we have in fact written about them before in an article comparing green tea to rooibos tea, but long before we became interested in the healthy side of this tea it was drunk in South Africa simply because it tasted good. So what makes our glowing mama so special? Well first up; it’s 100 percent caffeine-free, 100 percent natural and the mama has worked with a master tea blender and a medical herbalist to make it taste great and to enhance the natural goodness of all the herbs in the blend. Here’s a run down of all the things we think makes this such a beautiful tea:

Rooibos

Grown in South Africa, the leaves of this plant have been drunk as a tea for over two hundred years. In recent years the South African Rooibos Council has started conducting scientific research into the medical benefits of Rooibos to humans. Rooibos is 100% caffeine-free and it is for this reason it is often recommended for drinking whilst in pregnancy. It also has a low tannin content so it does not hamper iron absorption, in the same way that black tea and coffee can, thus reducing the risk of developing anaemia. Rooibos is also high in antioxidants, which are thought to help prevent some illness and disease although clinical studies are scarce and in their early days.

Elderflowers

It is considered bad luck to fell an elder tree, these trees have been given respect due to the powerful effects that the leaves, flowers, berries and bark can have. We have the flowers from the tree in this tea, they have diuretic and laxative properties and generally regarded as good for helping to clear toxins from the system.

Echinacea

According to one 19th century source this herb was a “remedy for more ailments than any other plant”, with this in mind it is regarded as a valuable alternative to traditional antibiotics during pregnancy, particularly for colds, kidney and urinary infections.

Dandelion

Still used in salads, the leaves are nutritious as they are high in potassium, vitamins A, B-complex and C, as well as iron, manganese, phosphorus, sulphur, calcium and silica. Dandelion has diuretic properties and “is a good cleansing remedy to to help ensure a healthy and well-functioning digestion”.

Glowing Mama is a great tasting caffeine-free all rounder that can be drunk at anytime to encourage a healthy body and ward off infections, especially during pregnancy.
