We know there hasn’t really been a summer this year but in the last couple of days, here at Mama Tea HQ, there has been a noticeable changing of the weather; the temperature has dropped just a few degrees and the early morning has a slightly fresher feel. Couple that with the children being back at school (here in Scotland anyway) and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival drawing to a close and it feels like autumn is heading our way. At Mama Tea we love fashion and style so rather than feeling down about the impending change of seasons we thought we’d look forward to what styles and fashion we could potentially have fun with over the coming months. Using Vogue’s A-Z guide to trends for next season here’s the ones we think we’ll be trying.
Hats
We already love hats in the winter, not only are they practical but you can make a real style statement with them if you choose, all types of hats go so try on loads of styles and buy a hat that suits you.
Gloves
Another practical item for the winter but also one that needn’t cost the earth and enable you to give a nod to current fashions whilst retaining your own style. Gloves this season are up to the elbow and can incorporate many of the other current trends such as colour or print.
Rich and Regal
Luxurious layering with opulent and rich fabrics such as brocade and velvet was dominant across the catwalks. This can be worn in a very lady like and elegant way or can be worn in a glamorous gothica style depending on your style. As we’ve seen with the trend for lace over the summer some people give a nod to the trend with a little lace detail on a t-shirt whereas others embrace it and wear a lace dress.
Purple
In keeping with the rich and regal theme, one of the colours of this winter will be purple, along with burgundy and navy. Lovely rich tones.
Prints
There were enough different print themes seen at the show that each could be given a paragraph of their own but we’ve lumped them all together. There are going to be monchrome prints, natty geometric prints, intricate detailed prints and zig zags. There’s also likely to be a lot of tweed around this winter (we know it’s not a print).

Eyebrows
And one trend we’re not sure about, decorating our eyebrows! The fashion is definitely to have thicker and styled eyebrows but not sure we’ve got the patience for this…
